Long, but worth it?
Id love some of your opinions if you have the time
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Something has happened to me in the last 10 years.
Im just not horrible to anyone anymore...
I also dont care what people think of me if they are viewing me through a veil of ignorance.
I am more accepting of other perceptions, opinions and lifestyles.
I question everything and and happy that mine is but one way, i try not to judge.
I try not to enforce my views on to anyone else but instead try to as best i can, eloquently and as non-abusively as possible express them.
Of course sarcasm can often be seen as passive aggressive, but its better than saying what i am sometimes feeling, and is much the same as stating my true opinion. Eg "How incredibly open-minded, non-stereotypical and accepting of you!" is much the same as saying. "In my opinion, your opinion is narrow-minded, stereotypical and elitist."
Then again some people are assholes, and they have their reasons, but im pretty sure they could try to express their opinion whilst holding back on insults and such ridiculous generalisation.
Sometimes i am a bit of an asshole back, because its all they would understand.
I consider all angles to pretty much everything, even my own views and emotions, knowing that i too, am tainted by this world.
Im certainly not saying that i am better than anyone else for this, but i like being this way and think it is quite healthy. It was hard to get here and i dont know how i did, but it has created an exilarating freedom within me.
So when it comes to say a person, fully saturated with standards and stereotypes generations in the making and made worse by this heavily media-electro-net age, isnt it just soooo easy to insult them.....
Yes, tempting for sure, but if you are comfortable enough not to be emotionally affect/offended and avoid them, then you can get on with enjoying the freedom of your existence.
The problem is the unsettling feeling that they are the majority, you often feel powerless and can resign or exclude yourself from the madness.
Little by little i believe things will either change for the better or everone will go insane anyway.
I dont believe that you can, for example, change a persons way of life with a few words, some adverts and a pamphlet.
People just dont care. They dont see it, so it "doesnt happen", or theyre more interested in, i dunno... porn.
We're all guilty of becoming wrapped up in meaningless chores and the 21st century trappings and promise.
Its something inside the few of us which inspires change. Little by little.
High school level education is a fascade of intelligence and inspiration, run by those, who dont care, or care more about having another car this year, as almost every truly powerful system or company is.
Everyone has the freedom to express, but if you dont approach every person and situation with a mind clear of pollution, can you really see what is possible? Can you do anything but judge and assume?
You cant change peoples deep rooted values easily. Especially not those of our parent's generation.
Id like to point out that I dont wish to enforce my opinion, but say for example i had an ignorance-eliminator, and met a man who needed one. If i eliminated all the media-stereotypes, his parent's narrow-minded views, his generalism of things that may have been conditioned by experience, all of which mostly are enforced by others, would he still have the same views? It's doubtful. If i showed him the freedom of questioning everything, even his own thoughts, would he feel so much hate or be arrogant and oppressive toward other people? Doubtful also.
I think the only thing we can do is try to educate our friends and our children, about questioning and talking about everything, loving our planet more than the things we make from it, loving each other, working together and TRULY LIVING, everyday more meaningful than the last.
Will it matter when youre dead how many cars you had? Is having 6 big cars at the expense of others all you wanted from life?
I now want to comment on some conversations i am having/started, the catalyst for this blog, and id love to know some of your opinions, if youre interested in debating it!
All responses to basically "Should i get dreads?"
Conversation #1
XXXXXXXX 1 day 23 minutes agoHonestly, most white guys that I've seen dreads on look like they haven't showered in a year, they smell like they've been sleeping in garbage, and constantly complain about how evil the government is while they smoke weed.
In short: if you're gonna look like you've been sleeping in shit too, then dreads are fine. Also, if you do do dreads, the only way to really get rid of them is to cut your hair off.
~lucie-lubot 1 hour 11 minutes agoHow incredibly open-minded, non-stereotypical and accepting of you!
I guess maybe there are two kinds of people in this world; people who smell like theyve been sleeping in garbage and people who are just assholes. I know which id choose. The one you can wash off more easily.
Update
XXXXXXXXXXXX 1 hour 1 minute agoOh yes, it's not like I could actually have met these people or live somewhere where there are a great deal with them. No no, I must be a judgmental asshole, because no rational person could ever have noticed that pot and pseudo-intellectual communism are never far away from white people who wear dreads and have never used a shower.
Besides, I am under no obligation to be open-minded, not stereotype, or accept anything I don't want to. In fact, you are likewise under no obligation to keep talking to me. Isn't free will just a kick in the head?
~lucie-lubot 1 second agoI am under no illusion of thinking that i have to keep talking to you, i want to.
And of course you have no obligation to be open minded, accept anything or not to stereotype, its just a very boringly sad way to be, in my opinion. The epitomy of why everyones so pissed off and missing out on better things in life.
Under a veil of conditioned misconception, why bother even ever saying anything? If you know yourself that you are saturated with such things? What would be the meaning in anything you said if the things you say yourself to be/do are all enforced by other and not yourself?
Conformity? Rebellion? Or just an asshole? Its a fair comment im sure you agree..
I accept that i too am clouded by such things to a degree but what would be the point in generalising things because of it? I would only miss opportunities i would rather experience.
I didnt imply that you have never met any, my point really was, who gives a shit? Someone doesnt shower, who fuckin cares? In the big fucking picture, really? That means they cant be a good friend? Hard worker? Lover? YOU care because you care what others think so much right?
Someone smokes weed, so they dont deserve the same things, respect, friendships? Theyre immediately bad people or something? In fact oftentimes their values would be said to be those of a NICER person. People who drink all the time are awesome yeah? People who drink and then beat the shit out of people, but they dont smoke and have a skinhead, theyre more important?
You imply i should accept your wish to not accept, yet you judge me so harshly when i have never met you. I accept that capitalism has its merits and potential but can see its major flaws and choose to, through mostly a gut feeling, generally avoid it, i dont smoke weed and i bathe every day, but my knotted hair leads you to immediately assume that i am a pseudo-intelectual communist?! Dammit! We couldve been friends!
Conversation #2 - close to my heart
XXXXXXXX 5 hours 17 minutes agoDepends on your age. Dreads will not land you a good-paying job or an A with a female professor. My friend had to cut his off after being turned down at every workplace imaginable...even McDonald's...for looking unprofessionally.
If you're still a kid, go ahead. You can always cut them off and there's nothing wrong with experimenting.
~lucie-lubot 1 hour 16 minutes agoHa, turned down at mcdonalds... a bad thing?
I guess what it comes down to is what you want from life really... Oppression and to work with people so narrow-minded, or to be happy and enjoy your short life however you choose.
XXXXXXXXX 1 hour 1 minute agoGood luck trying to enjoy your short life without being able to pay for your bills. In this economy, you have to be incredibly stupid to prioritize your choice of hairstyle above getting a secure job.
~lucie-lubot 3 minutes 39 seconds agoi think you misunderstood me a bit, i kind of hoped you could tell i am not a shallow person as i could tell you are an intelligent and driven person.
it's not a hairstyle that I am implying should be more important than a secure job, but happiness. I think we both know which wed choose if we had to go without the other.
My point was, and it is but one opinion, that id rather be poor than sacrifice a part of myself, if something makes me miserable or i feel oppressed, i will not do it. i wouldnt work for certain people no matter what my hairs like.
You can pay the bills without sacrificing certain beliefs, right?
Its not MY hairstyle but THEIR/the general stereotypes that should be cut out of the system and in fact, all our lives.
Right?
Refusing to cut them off is much more than wanting to keep a hairstyle.
Ok, my comments about this particular 2nd blossoming debate....
I havent had a job for a long time due to mental health reasons. It has given me the time i needed and i think everyone should have, to evaluate themselves, their lives, ambitions and place on this earth. It gave me time to get school and its bollocks out of my head. It gave me time to find what i love to do... create, inspire, love and laugh. The only things i believe to be truly important.
Thats hard for some people to get. They may ask or think "Dont you need to pay for stuff?", "If i work, why shouldnt you?", "If i conform in order to survive, why shouldnt you?" But are they REALLY surviving? People survive on much less. If they added up all the money they spent on MEANINGLESS or HARMFUL CRAP, would it be enough to survive and go without "luxury"? Probably.
I was born but a babe with no concept of our society's system. I wouldnt say i actively rebel against it, though others might think i do compared to themselves, but i just choose to (mostly) ignore, yet still unfortunately for the moment exist within it. I dont have much choice at present because i admit they have created many things that they have forced me to believe i cant live with out, and also institutions of education and health for example that are greatly appreciated by me.
But should i conform and ignore what i want or believe in order to plod through in ignorance, eventually retiring a burned out husk? Just to have more stuff? No thanks. Thats YOUR problem not mine.
Its not about hairstyle, (i resent the implication) its about giving up ANYTHING because otherwise another might think something about you, something which has grown into a ridiculous stereotype and has no bearing on your ability to be a good worker, helper, lover, friend.
I REFUSE to change anything, ESPECIALLY something as superficial as my apperance in order to water their seeds of misconception and power-hungry prejudice and inequality.
Their are other ways to co-exist than this money-oriented delusion of grandeur and need.
We dont need them, they would "kill us off" one by one if they wanted to, and they do, every day.
They need us but they dont know it. Without us, people with good in their hearts and the wish for a better time on this earth, we would all have killed each other a long time ago.
We just have to keep trying... Little by little. One person at a time.
